What is going on with my son?

My 9 year old son has been seeing a black smoke shadow person for quite some time now. He hears voices at times that tell him to do bad things.
He is being seen by a psychiatrist right now but I feel like there is more to this than him being mentally ill.
He was able to communicate with a ghost in our previous house.
During a talk we were having last night he had what I felt like were empathic feelings. We were discussing dangerous behaviors and I gave him an example of a girl who hit her chin and had serious injuries. He started to scream and cry and hold his chin as if he were in extreme pain.
I asked him what was wrong and he kept telling me he could feel her pain. Is this even possible? Should I be trying to find him help in a psychic/sensitive way?
