How this website came about

and why you need one as well...

If you've read about Maggie and me on our About Us page, then you'll understand that we've been doing this sort of thing for quite a while as it's always been pretty much a passion of ours.

This website is the result of our passion. I'm proud of it and the information in it. We're able to help more people because of it.

I've also had some nice comments about it and some questions about it as well. So I thought I'd just try and be clear as to what I did and how I did it and answer some questions about SBI into the bargain.

Is this my first website?

Absolutely not! I dread to think how many I've started and let slide. But it IS my best one (so far!), in terms of content and visitation.

In fact, between us, Maggie and I have three other sites all to do with what really interests us; one dealing with psychic stuff, one just about dowsing and one about aliens. (Yes, I know, but at least we're happy!)

I shudder at the thought now of our earlier efforts. Not only did they never succeed, but we also threw large amounts of money at them with no result. $1500 on search engine optimization? Still no more visitors! Talk about painful lessons!

Is it worth doing?

The answer is the same no matter what this questions is about. For example, if you're asking is it worth my while doing this website from a business or plain financial point of view then that's a 'Yes'.

If it's about whether it's worth it from a personal satisfaction point of view, that's also a 'Yes!'

Financially, it has certainly made a difference. And that's simply because we have more people seeing us everyday than ever before.

What we do on this site is hardly on the same level of interest and awareness as, say, car sales, fishing or films. But, nevertheless, at the time of writing we're ranked about the 400,000 mark on the web. In case you think that's small potatoes, there are around 50 million sites out there! Believe me, when you get below 500,000, you start getting more visitors and that converts to increased income.

From the satisfaction point of view, I can truly say that I love adding to this site, learning and finding out things which will help people. Why wouldn't I love writing about what I love? And that fact that people come and read and take advantage of the various things we offer them, whether it's the free stuff or not, makes it even better.

Is it easy to do?

No. It's not like 'do one thing once a day and you're rich'. What makes it easier to do, however, is it's something I love talking about. I still have to write the pages and check facts and do other odds and ends. It's doing what I love that makes it easier. But don't get the idea that somehow this is a get-rich-quick scheme.

It takes dedication. I think that's the only thing you really need (plus, of course, a passion, an interest...a reason, if you like).

You don't need superb writing skills. You don't need huge amounts of time. You can add a page a week or a page a month or page an hour. It's up to you and the time available for it. (Of course there is the option of having someone build it for you, if that's what you prefer.)

What if I don't know what I'd have a website about?

In a way, that's quite a good thing because it means that you're more open to ideas and suggestions. I definitely wanted this site to be about something else to begin with. But I found out, before I started, that it wouldn't work. I realized I had to dump that idea if I was to succeed (finally!).

The great thing about SBI is that it teaches you that the very first thing you need to be sure of is to find out whether your idea is going to be profitable.

If you have definite, unbendable wishes for a website, I'd say you were heading down a long and lonely path. Of course, I could be wrong, but in either case, you'd benefit from SBI's tools to make sure, one way or the other. The tools like the Brainstormer are invaluable in guiding you.
