Subtle Energy...
A Phrase With A Lot Of Meaning!
Subtle energy, as a term, has been around for a while now. What it means is that it is something which is outside of the normal methods of measuring energy, or it is not yet known how to measure it. What is it?You might remember seeing something like the ‘energy spectrum’. (If you click on the picture below, it will open up a larger version for you to see.)
This is a representation of what is currently measurable, according to modern science. (The image was created by NASA)However, subtle energy is what is NOT on that scale. And, because it is not there, it is more difficult to label what it is. We have terms like X-rays, and ultraviolet and microwaves for the measurable spectrum, but we have to use other terms for subtle energies. That is why you hear about ‘gut feelings’, the human energy field, the aura, chakras, energy vortex, spiritual energy and the like to try to explain what it is that we humans can feel, even if we can’t measure it! Subtle energy, then, can mean different things to different people. As long as you remember that it is really talking about things which can’t be scientifically measured yet, you will be fine. Some examples, please!The previous paragraph already gave some ideas, but let’s make it a little more obvious if we can.- You might have heard of people who can see auras; that energy field around the human body. It’s possible you have had your aura photographed. If neither of those are true for you, then you probably have felt uncomfortable being in a certain place area with a certain person. Or you felt really good. Whichever of those has happened to you, it is as a result of your subtle energy field being being altered or noticed.
- If you can dowse, then you might have learned to identify and track the subtle energies within the earth, perhaps one of the earth energy grids.
- If you have had a session with an energy healer, such as a reiki healer, then what happened would have been classified as using or directing subtle energy.
As you can see already, there are a great variety of different sorts of activities and effects which all come under the term ‘subtle energy’. The sensations you get at a sacred site like Chartres Cathedral in France, for example, could be called spiritual energy, or a variation of subtle energy. It is exactly the same with some of the experiences you can have with the earth. In Sedona, Arizona, for example, there are several places where you can stand in a vortex of energy. This vortex can’t be measured using scientific instruments, but it is something which many people can feel, and which is real for them. Can I have proof? Yes, you certainly can! Here are two experiments you can do.1) The simplest method of finding out that there is something about you which you can’t see is to do the following exercise; Take your hands and rub them together vigorously, as if you are warming them up. Now relax and hold your hands with your palms facing each other about a body width apart. Close you eyes (it makes it easier to feel what is happening), slowly bring your hands closer together. At some point you will feel a slight resistance. It has been described as being like a rubber ball. Feel that resistance as you move your hands gently in and out. That is your energy field  2) Another method is to make a pointer with your index finger and then to draw slow circles on your thigh or arm. You should be able to feel the circles being drawn. It’s even more fun if you do this to someone else. Children especially can be very sensitive to this and usually end up giggling a lot and wanting to try it for themselves.
