Standing Stones Don't Have To Be Huge To Work!

Do you think of standing stones as huge things which dominate the landscape? Really tall and really old?

That's probably true for most people. However, they don’t have to be like that.

Of course, there are famous stones like those at Stonehenge or the mysterious Callanish in Scotland or at Carnac in Brittany. Then there's the stones at Avebury as seen below, with Maggie in front of one. Big, aren't they?

As always, theories abound about standing stones. Everything from how they were transported and erected to why they are where they are and what it is they do in that place.

I’m certainly not going to add to the confusion (although I do have my own ideas, of course!).

Instead, I want to look at them from the point of view of how they can help with your environment.

Where am I going to get a stone that size?

Relax! You don’t need to.

What you do need to do, however, is understand a little about them.

If you can dowse, it will be much easier to explain about them. For example, if you have a large stone, such as the one in the picture above, you will find that there are several lines of energy coming out from it. These lines can travel across the land for some considerable distances and often they link up with other stones.

One writer (and dowser), Tom Graves, gave the term ‘earth acupuncture’ to such stones. He said that the standing stones were treating or balancing the energies, helping to make the environment better, by getting rid of noxious energies.

In case that seems a crazy idea, let me introduce you to an Austrian solution to traffic accidents....

In Styria, Austria, a section of a major road, the A9, kept experiencing traffic accidents. Despite doing everything they could think of (including putting up signs, altering the curves, and resurfacing) no change was noticed. In desperation, they turned to a Druid who dowsed the area and, by placing two stones, one on either side of the A9, reduced accidents to zero. (You can read the whole story here.)

Your environment

By now, you might have got a glimpse of how standing stones might be applied to your situation.

If standing stones can link up with each other, if they can alter the energies to make driving safer, then it makes sense that they can be used in your own environment to make it better for you.

Because there is only a small area to affect, you only need small stones.

The trick is in knowing which stones will work best for you and where to place them. This is where it is very handy to know how to dowse as these questions then become a breeze to answer. (Learn to dowse using our course.)

However, as a rough guide (and do remember that each situation is different), you will need some quartz bearing rock as a preference. Something like a granite will do. About the size of your fist or a bit bigger would be about right for starters.

Then you have to work out where to place them.

To start with, you can try them in your vegetable or flower garden. By putting them at the edges (you might only need three or four) you can alter the energies of that small patch of ground. The placement of the stones is crucial. For example, it might be better for the flat sides to face inwards, or perhaps the edges.

(Flower growers in the Scilly Isles off the coast of England, use this method to heat the soil up a few degrees to have flowers ready for market quicker.)

Tend the area as before and watch for differences; higher yields, greater frost resistance, healthier plants, or variations from the norm in some way.

Learn from this experiment and, when ready, scale up to your whole property. You might need either bigger stones or more of them. But keep careful tabs on what you do and how you do it.

You will probably be very pleasantly surprised at the results you get! Standing stones can indeed be remarkable things, even when they are small!
