Scary basement

The laundry room is in our basement, which is finished nicely. I have never liked going downstairs in this house. It feels creepy, even though it looks nice. I have the feeling of being watched, or maybe even as if there is someone there. I know there isn't, but I can't overcome my apprehension. Sometimes I even think I see a shadow move out of the corner of my eye. But when I look directly at it, there is nothing there. That only makes me feel worse.

Recently, I find myself putting off doing the laundry, and when I do, I go down and up the stairs as fast as I can. I don't linger.

I feel like a silly kid, and I am normally very steady. I don't have nerves or creepy feelings in other places, just the basement. What's going on?
