Sacred Sites Are Just What You Want Them To Be

Places like cathedrals or other centers of worship are often thought of as being sacred sites. Usually they are. But that is not the only type by any means.

As this is a website about harmonizing energies in your environment, it makes sense to talk about sacred sites, because they are usually the places where the energies feel wonderful.

What makes a site sacred?

Really it is the energies at such a place which give it that special feel and make it somewhere different from anything else.

So the real question is, ‘How do those energies get like that?’.

There are places on the earth which have those wonderful, spiritual properties quite naturally. It happened all by itself. Usually, but not always, they are out in nature and away from too much human contact.

sacred sites 1Deep in forests there are glades which rarely get visited or only passed through quickly yet which have a wonderful atmosphere. (Of course, the thing to ask is why doesn’t everyone notice such places? Be thankful they don’t, so you can enjoy them!) Maybe you have had the fun of being in somewhere like the redwood glade in the picture.

If lots and lots of people went there, the energies would change and it would no longer feel sacred. It would have lost that special atmosphere. And the reason for that is that the people come along with their energy and they dump lots of it there. Slowly it accumulates and makes the place feel dirty or unpleasant in some fashion.

So, again, a good question is, ‘Why don’t places like cathedrals or the traditional sacred sites feel dirty with all that energy there?’

Firstly, there are plenty of cathedrals and churches and the like which do not feel at all pleasant. Just because a place is called sacred doesn’t mean that it feels sacred.

How to get that special feeling

A place can feel great not only because of the natural energies there, but also because of the activities which take place there as well as the attitude of those visiting and of those performing the ceremonies.

In other words, it’s a combination of things which have to come together to make it all work.

sacred space 2Let’s say you go to a place like Chartres cathedral. You can do it in two ways:

  1. You can go there and look at the building and wander around and leave. By doing so, you drag along your energy to the place in your subtle energy field and leave some of it hanging around.
  2. Or you could go there after having really looked forward to it, made up your mind that you are going to enjoy every aspect of it, treat it with respect and leave with regret. You’re not going to leave much energetic rubbish there.
And, all long, that cathedral is being used as a regular place of worship (and has been for hundreds of years), plus it stands on top of an ancient holy well (a place where the earth’s energies are already helping to create a wonderful atmosphere).

By following approach number 2, you are contributing to the feel of the place and it is helping.

It’s your attitude which counts

A place is only sacred if you treat it as such.

That means that you can have your very own site and make it special just for you. It can be yours and yours alone. It doesn’t matter whether you live out in the country surrounded by nature, or in the city surrounded by noise.

If you intend to create a place just for your own special needs, you can do it. You need to do the following:

  • Clear the area of negative energies if they exist and do this often and regularly
  • Use the area only for one purpose (prayer, meditation, contemplation, peace) and that one purpose only
  • Use the area regularly for that purpose and clean it energetically before and after each use
  • Don’t allow anyone else use that space unless you are sure that they will treat it with the same respect that you do
If you do these things regularly, you will find that strangers will remark on how good the place feels and you yourself will feel lighter and more at ease there.

You will have created your own sacred site!
