Do You Want To Mess With Labyrinths?

Labyrinths are very pretty things to look at. They can be made of grass, stones, rocks, earth banks, painted on driveways, drawn in the sand, carved in wood or just outlined with wooden pegs.

They come in various sizes and types, from miniature ones on key-rings to huge ones in cathedrals.

They can be complex or quite simple in design.

They can be used for decoration or meditation.

Labyrinths, in other words, can be made to fit any space and can be as difficult or as complex as you want to make them.

Maggie and I thought we liked them for a while, but then we fell in love with them after we visited Chartres Cathedral in France and walked the one there.

It was magical! Early morning, in a beautiful, wondrous setting. Almost complete silence except for the footsteps of the other 2 people sharing the experience. We soaked in the atmosphere, knowing that this had been used for hundreds of years by people to express their religious devotion.

How sensitive are you really?
And is that a good thing?

Coming out, we were sold on the idea and had to have one!

Move forward some years and you come to a time of back-ache and sore muscles. Outside in the yard a large labyrinth was growing. Hacked into the ground was the outline of the Chartres style, slightly larger than the original!

It was, without doubt, beautiful. Friends and neighbors came to admire it and to walk it.

(You can see how we set about building the labyrinth here)

Then strange things began happening.

Before I tell you what happened though, just be aware of a couple of things about them.

You can have a one for decoration, paint it on the ground, put it on a wall and it looks good.

Or, you can have one and intend to use it, make it a part of your life, walk it for meditation purposes and generally let it add to your well-being.

Of the two, the first is the safest.

The second brings with it all sorts of problems, mainly energetic.

And here's why...

For most of us we set out with good intentions and then we fall off somehow from that focus. However, once you 'power-up' a labyrinth by using it to add to your spiritual life, it starts humming energetically and it doesn't slow down much.

Now that's well and good if you use it regularly and tend to it to keep it looking good. That's why the one in Chartres is still so fresh and excellent. It is in a place of regular worship. It has been used for hundreds of years (and is still used) by people who are focused on their own interior growth, giving as much as they take from the place.

But for most of us, that's not true.

We began with good intentions. We walked it regularly. We meditated in it. It was powerful and changes began taking place in our neighborhood. Property began selling, houses getting built, extensions added, people moving in and out. Great change where nothing had happened before.

It was obviously powerful. For example, when we had a group of 20 people come to walk it, not one photo was taken as all the camera batteries drained. Even stranger was a video camera which worked perfectly inside the house, but turned to 'snow' as soon as it taken outside the back door to the yard where the labyrinth was.

(We were able to take photos, but no-one else could! See one of them here)

We spent time growing our business and neglecting the labor of love.

That mean that it began drawing in other energies. It began acting like a huge vacuum, sweeping up all the other energetic 'muck' in the area and depositing it in our backyard.

We soon found that we had to spend more time clearing it than walking it!

We noticed the same problems in some of our clients who also had labyrinths. Energy began to turn noxious. Animals began showing illness.

We spent a long time and some hard work 'powering down' ours. It eventually worked so that we could sleep easily again without feeling that we were overcrowded and home to every ghost in the county!

But so many people don't know that a labyrinth, if actually used, should be continually used.

We have found many such constructions which are pouring negative energies into peoples' properties because they stopped using it.

So, before you commit to making one, be very clear what your purpose is and how you will use it.

Because it could be a lot more problem than it's worth!
