What you're describing is rare, when an actual presence of 'something' is seen by two people. Even then, they don't agree on the details. Nevertheless, something is definitely there.
To answer your questions, I would suggest the following:
1. Tell them that whatever it is is obviously not trying to harm them and is merely curious and interested.
2. You might try something as simple as being very quiet and still and focused before asking it to leave as it is interfering with your life in a way you do not wish. Such things do work. But there is no guarantee. I'll add a little more in a moment.
3. My suspicion is that this light is something not human, not from this earth. If anything, it's more like an investigative consciousness. We have come across similar things before.
From what you say, there are no obvious unpleasant things happening apart from the unease at its presence.
Therefore, it does not appear to be threatening in any way. However, you have the right to have your environment as you wish it to be.
I see that you are in Tuscon. Maggie and I are giving a talk (and a workshop) there at the local Dowsing Society on May 1st and 2nd. The talk will cover this sort of area, so it might be of interest to you and could help put this into a wider context.
Other than that, I would suggest having your space cleared. But, I would point out that most space clearing people today do not cope with energies such as you are talking about and do not know how to deal with them.
