Geomancy:
or Harmony in the environment
Geomancy is a term which covers more than you might think. It is an old word meaning, roughly, divining the Earth. In other words, it is a process to help bring all the elements of an environment into harmony with each other so that there are no  problems, illnesses or other disturbing factors there. As you are in the environment, that can also mean that you need to be balanced and made harmonious! We are geomancers. That is, we practice geomancy. For some people, that word makes them think about wizards and magicians, but only if you’ve been reading some types of science-fantasy! Honestly, if you meet us, we don't look anything like wizards. We wear ordinary clothes...Promise!!
What do we do?As modern western geomancers, we use various techniques to make sure that all the parts of the environment work together. There are many techniques which we use. Some of the ones we use include - dowsing
- color
- crystals
- nature spirits
- symbols
- sound
- ...and many more
More importantly, we aim to have you and your environment in harmony or in balance with each other. That means that when we work we take into account some or all of the following: - the Earth energy grid
- ley lines
- subtle energy of the site
- nature spirits (such as devas and faeries)
- entities (ghosts, for example)
- other types of geopathic stress
In addition, geomancy also helps at maintaining or creating sacred spaces as well as working with sacred sites. In other words, the range of techniques used and the types of issues being dealt with make this geomancy a very broad subject indeed! Sometimes, people ask us if we do the same thing as Feng Shui does. The answer to that is not quite as straightforward as you might think. Basically, as modern western geomancers, we address a wider range of issues, causes and problems than eastern techniques do. Filling in the details...Let’s explain a little more about some of those terms in the list.- Ley lines are tricky things to describe or explain simply, and that’s why most people get muddled with them. They originally started off with just one meaning, but other ideas have been added to that original one until today when ley lines can mean different things to different people.
- The Earth energy grid is a little easier to understand and to explain! Actually, there probably isn’t just one grid and we probably don’t know all there is to know about the grids, but, even so, it is easier to grasp what the earth energy grid is.
- Speaking of the earth, there are many views about changes taking place on the planet. These earth changes also have to be taken into account.
 Nature spirits are an important part of the world, although many people now find it hard to consider these as having any role to play. They just think of them as being part of childrens’ stories. If that sounds like you, then you are very wrong, and you might be pleasantly surprised about fairies and about the role that devas play in our world!- We’ve all heard of ghosts, read ghost stories, seen ghost films and perhaps even thought we’ve seen a ghost. So, the idea is easy for most of us. However, how to deal with ghosts is something slightly different. And that is also what we, as geomancers, have to do.
- Subtle energies is a term which you can use to describe pretty much anything which is not visible yet which affects people (either in a good or a bad way). There are many types of subtle energies.
- Geopathic stress is one general term for the problems a place has or for the problems the inhabitants are having. It can be caused by any of the above (as well as several other things). The good thing about it is that it is a term broad enough to capture everything. The bad thing is that it is a term broad enough to capture everything! But that is also what makes geomancy such an interesting area of study.
As you can see, geomancy is made up of many aspects. It is what makes our work so interesting and ever-changing. No two properties are the same.
