A Curse Has A Real Effect!

Curses (or spells) have been used throughout history, are a favorite device in some types of fiction and people still suffer from them.

Such things can also be known as a hex or a jinx. Different cultures seem to have different ways of directing them, but in fact they all have the same basis...focused intent.

Some examples

In Australia, the Aborigines use what is called ‘bone-pointing’. This is where the person who is to suffer is pointed at with an object (often a bone) together with a brief incantation, after an elaborate ritual. Invariably, the person pointed at in this manner dies some time later. Although this is reported as being a widespread practice, it is not considered murder under Australian law.

King TutankhamenThen there is the famous curse of Tutankhamen, the Egyptian boy-king. The sudden death of Lord Carnarvon, the head of the expedition, just seven weeks after the opening was said to be the result of the tomb being opened. As it was a popular idea and attracted the public imagination, so other deaths began to be linked to it. In reality, there never was a curse as it was the result of newspapers ‘spicing up’ the incident.

Objects can be said to be the result of this focused intent, such as James Dean’s Porsche Spyder, in which he died after a crash. The subsequent history of the car is associated with at least 5 other deaths and injuries as well as numerous accidents before finally disappearing. However, in such cases, it would appear difficult to know who or what was responsible for it. Therefore, it is more likely that people mean that an object is evil, rather than as a result of an individual’s actions.

Those who practice voodoo call what they do ‘jinxes’ whereas the Pennsylvania Dutch use the word ‘hex’ to describe the action which is common to virtually all cultures and religions. In fact there is a special type of curse used to exclude people from a church or religious organization. It is called excommunication.

The Celtic peoples had many different ways of attacking people through their beliefs. Being largely agricultural, their oaths are more to do with the land, with fertility, and with productivity. Such things can affect land, people and animals even today. Witches used to be accused of stopping cows from giving milk and stopping women from becoming pregnant. Occasionally, there is mention of a doom being laid down on a family so that several generations pass by until the foretold event happened. Such stories are more to do with prophesying and divining than with malevolent intent.

Does it really happen today?

Yes it does. And sometimes without a great deal of effort. A curse can be laid by someone who says something like, ‘I hate that person! I wish they would just go to hell!’

witches cast spellsWe’ve all either said something like this, thought it or overheard it. Yet something as simple as this really can have an effect. Of course, it is not as focused as it could be, but because it is said with feeling (with intent), it can impact the other person. Maybe in a very small way, but it works. We should all watch what we say!

In fact, it takes a deal of effort and concentration, as well as some knowledge to really affect a person negatively in a very obvious way. They are not done lightly, quickly or easily.

In our work with people, we have found that oaths can be from a long way back in time. An ancient curse can make owners never be productive or make life difficult for them in other ways. Frequently we have come across properties which still have the effects of a Native American Indian decision to blight the land in one form or another centuries ago!

Then there are ancestral curses which seem to work through a family. However, most of those seem to be Celtic in origin and are not as common as stories might make you think.

Lifting it

You can remove a curse, especially if you know who placed it on you and if you are careful. However, it should be said that it is not something to undertake lightly. If you really feel you have had one placed on you, then you should ask us for our help.

In many cases it is not always obvious at first whether the problems reported really are the result of someone attacking you or whether they are due to negative energies in the environment. In either case, it is better that you have us as professional geomancers work for you, and let us examine your property for negative energies.
