Child Seeing Ghosts and Monsters

I have a grandson that is almost three years old. A few months ago I was babysitting him. We were in my daughter's bedroom and he was giving me a hard time about getting ready for bed. He pointed to her closet and told me there was a ghost in there. He even said, "see?"

It really scared me and I can't imagine where he got this idea much less the word ghost! I went over to the closet and turned on the light, looked in there and told him nobody was in there. Then he cooperated with me and I was able to get him to bed.

He also told my daughter that there was "monsters" in his bedroom. What, in your opinion, could that have been about? Could he be seeing something?
